Third regional "Iron Curtain Trail" Workshop in Sofia

Dienstag, 16.03.2010, 08:00 Uhr bis 17:00 Uhr

Possibility for local and regional entities to get involved in the "Iron Curtain Trail"

With regard to this year’s 20th Anniversary of the Iron Curtain Fall, the European Commission has organised three regional, awareness-raising Workshops for the "Iron Curtain Trail” - a European cycling and hiking trail which runs 7.000 km from the Barents Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south.

The workshops aim to:

  • Highlight the increasing importance of cycling tourism, its benefits and
  • regional economic impacts and stress the importance of developing the Iron Curtain Trail as a EuroVelo route.

  • Present European best practices of cycling tourism from other EuroVelo
  • routes and model implementations of parts of the Iron Curtain Trail.

  • Explore the interest of countries and regions alongside the former Iron Curtain to implement such a cycling trail and the way forward by identifying
  • feasible/concrete initiatives on how the European Commission could assist its implementation.

  • Promote the networking of countries and regions along the former Iron Curtain
  • towards the establishment of a future trans-national cycling route, the "Iron Curtain Trail".

The third of these regional workshops is aimed at the Southern European countries bordering the cycling trail: Bulgaria, Greece, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey.

It will take place in Sofia (Bulgaria).

You can find the programme, a registration form and other information on this event on the following website: ec.europa.eu/enterprise/sectors/tourism/iron-curtain-trail/index_en.htm
